Welcome to Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, a beloved traditional American restaurant nestled in the heart of Abilene, Texas. Located at 3502 S Clack St, this culinary gem is dedicated to serving up hearty, scratch-made dishes that evoke feelings of home-cooked comfort. At Cheddar’s, the emphasis is firmly on quality and care, with every dish thoughtfully crafted to ensure a memorable dining experience.
One of the standout features of Cheddar's is their inviting atmosphere, perfect for families and friends alike. Diners often commend the friendly service, with many noting that the staff goes above and beyond to enhance the experience. Patrons have raved about complimentary honey butter croissants, always a hit, setting a warm and welcoming tone for any meal.
As I peruse the menu, it's hard not to feel drawn to the diverse array of offerings. From savory appetizers like crispy onion rings and fried cheese bites to hearty entrées featuring juicy steaks and comforting chicken pot pie, there's a delicious option for every palate. While experiences can vary—some dishes shine vibrantly while others may miss the mark—Cheddar's commitment to customer satisfaction is evident. For instance, several guests have shared mixed reviews about specific dishes, highlighting that while not every meal may be perfect, the overarching quality of service and ambiance often outweighs minor missteps in the kitchen.
Drinks are another area where Cheddar’s shines, with a variety of local and imported beers, as well as a selection of wines from around the world. Whether you're in the mood for a chilled glass of Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio or a refreshing pint of Blue Moon, Cheddar's provides ample choices to complement your meal.
It's important to note that while the restaurant excels in many areas, some guests have mentioned issues with the ambiance, particularly regarding noise levels in family sections. Cheddar's is a family-friendly environment, and while energetic moments can enhance the lively vibe, they may not be everyone's cup of tea. Nevertheless, the thoughtful service and delicious scratch-made offerings keep patrons coming back, eager for another taste.
In summary, Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen in Abilene is a place where comfort meets quality. With its welcoming staff, a menu brimming with flavorful dishes, and a relaxing atmosphere, it stands out as a delightful option for casual dining. I highly recommend stopping by and experiencing the warmth and flavors for yourself! Whether dining with family or catching up with friends over drinks, Cheddar’s is sure to satisfy your cravings for hearty, classic American cuisine.

The bartender was absolutely amazing! He was fast, friendly and attentive. He brought us free Honey Butter croissants without us having to even asking for them. We did not eat there so I cannot rate the food. I rated the atmosphere a 4 because the restaurant does not restrict the bar area for 18 and older. People who go out to relax and have a drink with friends want to do so without listening to a 1 year old throwing a temper tantrum while the dad lays on the bench on his phone and mom is on her phone. I wouldn't recommend drinking at all if you have a child with you. Drinking under the influence with a child under 14 is an automatic felony in Texas. If Mom wants a glass of wine with her meal. They can order a drink from the bar in the family section without subjecting their child to loud music, cursing and the occasional dirty joke.

Traveling through town on a road trip and decided to stop by. The apps (fried cheese bites and salad) were great. Croissants on point as usual but when it came to the meal, not great. I got chicken pot pie. Looked great but when I broke open the crust there wasn't a creamy dish but filling and liquid, like a soup. I mixed in the crust and stirred it a bit which of course helped it thicken but then it didn't taste good at all. I just finished the apps for my meal. It wasn't a big enough deal to get a replacement at the time and I'm sure they would have taken it off or tried again, there service itself was great. I have had that dish before at other locations so knew it was off but like I said, everything else was great.

Went for lunch today. Appetizer was delicious, onion rings. We had steaks hubby had the 8 oz I had the 6 oz medium. Cooked just right. Sides were very good. Broccoli casserole looked dry. Next time we come back I will ask for less seasoning on steaks. It was a bit much. Our server was awesome did everything just right. I did notice the floors were slick. While we were waiting for a table I noticed a lady walking funny. Then I realized why. I had to walk very carefully so I wouldn't fall. My husband even said it was slick. All in it was a great lunch. We have a food truck so we enjoy different foods as we go on Mondays and get our product.

The food was good aside from them forgetting a few key components to my meal. The service was good and the staff was very nice and friendly. There was a nice family atmosphere.

Foods good service is very good. Drinks are on point. For the price its hard to be in that range. You can spend more money and maybe the foods a little better but honestly its a great place for anyone with a family. The roof leaks when it rains in a few places. The carpet and seats are kinda worn. Staff is good. Ribs can be dry.

The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is great! The price-to-quality ratio is outstanding — definitely worth it. I’ll be coming back for sure!
